Cul-de-sac
cul-de-sac
we’re spending our time standing in line
holding a dice, waiting for our turn
which may never arise
will the sun rise tomorrow?
like it did today
will there be sorrow?
will the cradle be a grave?
trying to be patient
trying to be brave
will the sun be there forever?
there are we, you and I
there, where the wishing well echoes empty
where a million eyes
too few times seen the next sunrise
will the sun rise tomorrow?
will the sun rise the next day?
will the sun rise everyday?
from a distant far the church bells chime
in the eye of the storm coffins are lined up
roses, red and black, are spread on the wet grass
Jesus weeps as the preacher gives one last prayer
their bodies are raised to the sky
the dark clouds open up
one last time they’ve seen the light of the sun
their story ends right here
it ends here
