The dream-stones

I was sitting at home alone one night reading a good book, when suddenly there
was a knock on the door. I looked at the clock on the mantelpiece. It was
midnight. Who on earth could it be? I got up and went to the door. When I had
opened the door I saw a little man with a hat standing there. He was very polite
and asked how I was doing with my book. This made my very confused. How
did he know that I was reading a book? I looked queerly at him. He saw on my
face that something was wrong and added very quickly that I was holding the
book. I Blushed.

When I asked what he was doing here in the middle of the night, he answered
that he was selling some special stones. And that he was wandering around in the
streets at night, looking for people with sleeping problems. He also said that the
reason he had knocked on my door was the he saw my reading-light through the
window.

After a while I invited him in for a cup of tea. He gladly accepted my invitation.
While I was preparing the tea, we talked about these stones he was selling. He
said that they were dream stones and if you placed them under the pillow when
you went to bed it would help you dream. Different stones had different abilities.
And it was possible to combine them with each other. For example, blue and red
stone will give you a romantic dream with some action. Black will give you a
nightmare and so on. If you buy you will get a piece of paper with the different
combinations, well the most popular combinations anyway.

I was very hesitant about these dream stones, but I played along and asked if
there were any negative sides of using the stones. He hesitated and then he told
me that there were some negative sides. If you put to many stones under the
pillow, the dream will be very long. But you will wake up, no doubt about it.

He said that if I put a picture of someone with a stone under the pillow, the
dream would be about that person. I asked him if I could try a set before I bought
it, I don't want to buy something that doesn't work. That would be plain stupid, I
said. The little man agreed and gave me a set and said that he would be back the
next night at the same time. We said goodbye and he went away.

Now I was very curious about these stones. When I opened the box with the
stones in I was very surprised. The box contained 50 stones with different
colours. And there was he said a piece of paper in the box with some
combinations.

At that time I did not care about the consequences of my doings. I did not care to
read the paper. I just threw in 20 stones at random. I did not care of what he said
about that if I placed a lot of stones I would sleep a long time. I had vacation the
next day so thought that it would be nice to sleep really long.

At the second I put my head on the pillow I fell asleep. The dream was a real
mess. I did not understand a thing. As soon as something happened another thing
came in it's way and ruined that story. So it went on for a very long time. Then I
succeeded with organising the dream. The thing I did was that I filtrated away
every part of the dream that I did not want to see. At least I thought so. Suddenly
from nowhere it came a dark shadow over me, I got really scarred and started to
run. But the shadow came up to me and grabbed me by my ankle and started to
drag me away.

That is the last thing I remember. I am now in a dark room somewhere, I have no
idea where I am, or what I'm doing here. But one thing I know.

My dream hasn't stopped. And I think that it never will. Why did I put 20 stones
under my pillow?
